<p>The contemporary labor market places a strong demand on managers capable of making balanced decisions in conditions of permanent turbulence, where emotional intelligence (EQ) plays a decisive role. At the same time, a fundamental contradiction emerges in this context: the real sector of the economy expects graduates to demonstrate developed empathy and flexible team management skills, while the traditional university paradigm remains primarily focused on cognitive metrics (IQ) and the transmission of academic knowledge. As a result, the formation of supra-professional competencies, including leadership potential, still occurs largely spontaneously and is often left to chance. In an attempt to bridge this gap, the article aims not only to substantiate the significant relationship between the level of emotional intelligence and the quality of student leadership but also to develop practical recommendations for integrating EQ-oriented practices directly into the fabric of the educational process. Drawing on recent empirical data, the author argues that the emotional profile of young people during their university studies retains a high degree of plasticity. The principal conclusion of the study is that in student associations—objectively deprived of material incentives—the intrapersonal and interpersonal components of emotional intelligence become the primary drivers of team cohesion, the mitigation of latent conflicts, and the creation of an atmosphere of psychological safety. The scholarly contribution of the research lies in the conceptual shift from episodic psychological training sessions to a systemic institutional transformation of higher education. The proposed set of measures forms a qualitatively new developmental ecosystem. The materials of the article and the recommendations formulated may be particularly useful for vice-rectors responsible for youth policy and student development, designers of educational programs, and heads of university project offices.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>высшее образование</kwd><kwd>лидерский потенциал</kwd><kwd>мягкие навыки</kwd><kwd>студенческая среда</kwd><kwd>управление командами</kwd><kwd>эмоциональный интеллект</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>emotional intelligence</kwd><kwd>higher education</kwd><kwd>leadership potential</kwd><kwd>soft skills</kwd><kwd>student environment</kwd><kwd>team management</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Зимина Н.
